The track capacity for double-track sections is calculated from the operated train type and arrangement, running time between relief stations, difference in running times between high-speed and low-speed trains, headway for the railway division in question, and other factors. The track capacity also varies widely according to the railway division characteristics.
The track capacity for double-track sections is generally said to be between 260 and 300 trains.
9 Train Running Control
Train running control consists of operating a group of trains according to a planned train diagram, and is performed by train dispatchers who must be constantly aware of train running conditions and take appropriate measures to restore normal running conditions as quickly as possible when trains become delayed, etc.
(1) Basic train running control format
Fig. 10 shows the basic format for train running control. Here, commands and information are transmitted back and forth between the train dispatcher, station master and driver.
Information concerning train delay conditions and train trouble between stations is reported by the station master to the train dispatcher using dispatching telephones after the train arrives at the station. Commands are transmitted from the train dispatcher to the station master via dispatching telephones, and then from the station master to the driver. This system essentially revolves around the station master, and the establishment of a communication system is of vital importance as delayed or insufficient information can greatly hinder control duties.
